An athletic & modern approach to yoga

If you're turned off from yoga because the idea of sitting on a cushion chanting to crystals for wisdom doesn't sound like you, then I'm right there with you! Yoga can be a bit overwhelming if you look at many of the ancient traditions.

But it doesn't have to be!!

It's time to rethink what yoga is and discover the intersection between fitness and yoga. This 8-week series will do just that with the CounterFlow Yoga & Cardio Yoga programs.

...but yoga isn't for me
Sure, maybe you can’t put your leg behind your head and sitting on a meditation pillow for hours sounds about as exciting as watching paint dry, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do yoga!

I’ve worked with recreational adult and youth athletes for years, and I’ve heard many say…‘I know I should do yoga to improve my performance and mental toughness, but it’s just so boring and just not for me!’

As a life-long dancer and athlete, for years I had the same self-limiting beliefs about yoga and meditation. I knew it would help my mental focus and give my body some calming relief from the hard pounding HIIT and running workouts I did daily. But finding the right class wasn’t easy.

I would go to classes and my anxiety / squirrel brain would struggle with all the sitting, or worse, I was made to feel ‘inadequate and bad’ because I couldn’t do lots of the difficult poses that were part of this long-standing ancient practice.

Then one day I found a class that allowed me to be me. We moved with intensity and vigor. She connected us with the music and her powerful moving mantras. I found deeply connected within, yet I was moving the whole time; it was a life-changing experience. It was then I realized that yoga could be dynamic AND mindful. I understood that I could take my knowledge in exercise science, movement patterns, and connect it with sports psychology principles to really help people move well and feel well.

Since then I’ve made it my mission to showcase the intersection between yoga and fitness. I developed CounterFlow Yoga with this goal, and teach Cardio Yoga as it’s rooted in the same principles. This is why I’m super stocked for this series that brings the two together, plus lots of other awesome fitness and mindfulness moments to make you the best athlete possible!
